Evesham Utd Ladies 0, Phoenix Hereford 5

EVESHAM went into Sunday's game looking to extend their winning sequence to four games but found it difficult to make any great impression against the league leaders.

Coming into the game with a 100 per cent league record, Phoenix started brightly and struck the bar early on. They weren't to be denied for long and took the lead after nine minutes.

United were finding it difficult to create any attacking moves and Mandy Upton came to the rescue when saving at the feet of an onrushing forward

A spell of three goals in the final ten minutes of the first half killed the game as far as the home side were concerned and Phoenix continued to apply the pressure at the start of the second half with Upton again forced into action.

Evesham had their first serious shot of the game 16 minutes from time after a tactical switch moved centre back Charlene McLoughlin further forward and her shot from the edge of the box was saved just under the crossbar.

An identical effort a minute later produced the same result from the goalkeeper before Phoenix broke away to increase their lead.

McLoughlin then twice shot straight at the goalkeeper before her centre flashed across the face of the visitors' goal with no one able to get a touch as the home side finished goalless for only the second time this season.

United will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they make the short trip for a league game against Pershore Town, ko 2pm.
