PUPILS at Fladbury CE (Aided) First School spent much of last term designing and making a tapestry depicting sights and events in the area during the month of October, which will be seen by The Queen and across the world.

"The project is part of a major piece of work being created throughout the Commonwealth," head teacher Ann Embury explained. "Schools all around the Commonwealth have created local scenes of their area for certain months and Fladbury is one of only two schools from Worcestershire among the 360 schools taking part."

All the metre-square tapestries are being shipped to Australia ready for the Commonwealth Games in March. There they will be fitted together to create an enormous tapestry depicting a year in the life of the Commonwealth, which will be viewed by The Queen during her visit to the Games.

"This has been a wonderful effort by our Year Four pupils who have thoroughly enjoyed creating our small part of this huge and ambitious global project," Mrs Embury said.

After the Games, the tapestries will be exhibited in Tasmania, Africa and the Caribbean before being shipped to London for display.
