A MAN assaulted three people and smashed a window because someone said that he could not dance.

Worcester Magistrates Court heard how Kevin Gisbourne, a man of previous good character, committed four offences in one night because of the jibe.

During Monday's appearance, Douglas Marshall, prosecuting said that one of the victims, Stephen Grant had been having a 'banter' with Gisbourne when he attacked him.

The 41-year-old, of Stratford Road, Honeybourne, was ejected from his local pub, The Gate Inn, following the incident on Saturday, October 29.

Minutes later, Gisbourne smashed the window and ran back into the pub, punching Mr Grant in the head.

Mr Marshall said that two women, one of whom was the landlady at the time of the incident intervened and were also assaulted.

Emily Lenham, prosecuting said that Gisbourne was a regular at the pub and had been 'wound up' by Mr Grant on previous occasions.

"Mr Grant had indicated that Mr Gisbourne couldn't dance," she said.

"He said that it was this comment that made him lose his temper.

"He is very sorry and very embarrassed for his behaviour that night."

She added that alcohol was a contributing factor, but that it was Mr Grant that the married father-of-five had intended to direct his anger at.

Gisbourne pleaded guilty to three counts of assault by beating and one of criminal damage.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge for the criminal damage, an 18-month conditional discharge for assaulting Mr Grant, a 12-month conditional discharge for the other assaults and was ordered to pay £350 compensation and £43 court costs.
