BEWDLEY Town Reserves were hit by a doble blow when an serious injury to Jason Thompson forced the abandonment of a West Midlands League division two cup tie they were winning.

Rich Downey's men led 1-0 against Wednesbury and were completely dominating the game when Dan Franklin gave them a 22nd minute lead.

But a freak injury to Thompson, who dislocated his knee after getting his studs caught in the ground, meant the match was ended prematurely on 43 minutes.

Bewdley Reserves return to league action when they host Shenstone at Ribbesford Meadows at 1.45pm on Saturday.
