TOWN Reserves welcomed Bridgnorth to the Langland Stadium on a wet and murky afternoon for this West Midlands division one clash.

MALVERN TOWN RESERVES 2, BRIDGNORTH TOWN RESERVES 0

Following a minute's silence for John Chambers (Bridgnorth committee member), Malvern played some of their best football so far this season.

Bridgnorth, having recently beaten the league's top two sides, were a very good all-round team who were let down on the day by their strikers, who were easily contained by Oakes, Roberts, Baker and skipper Adam Simpson.

Ed Lyons almost scored after ten minutes when he fired in a left-footed volley from the edge of the box and forced a superb diving save from the visiting keeper.

The same player had a second opportunity bursting through the Bridgnorth defence and with only the keeper to beat, his final touch let him down.

Just before half-time, a flowing move involving seven players ended when Mark Taylor fired across the face of the goal from the tightest of angles.

The second-half continued in much the same vein as the first with Malvern being slightly the more dominant force. Barry Hughes had a great chance to score when he latched onto a poor back pass but fired straight at the visiting keeper.

Manager Paul Pallett introduced youth player Shane Wade on 60 minutes and he scored with his second touch, volleying home following a jinking run and cross from Danny James.

With four minutes remaining, Dan Finnegan found Mark Goodman in space, and Goodman, who had worked tirelessly throughout the match, was rewarded by bursting 20 yards with the ball before driving it low and hard into the back of the net.
