MALVERN RFC have strengthened the back division as David Robins swooped to sign Dan Ott of Bromsgrove.

The brother of Steve Ott, Malvern's full-back, Ott has been a Bromsgrove regular in the centre for some years and last year was in the North Midlands side which reached Twickenham.

Robins said: "We are delighted to welcome Dan to Spring Lane, where he will be reunited with Dave Wilkinson. He will strengthen our options and give the squad some much-needed depth."

Robins was pleased with the way his side had responded to the pre-match exhortations on Saturday when they gained two points with a win against Old Laurentians.

He said: "The boys knew what they had to do, they had a game plan which they stuck to and it worked. Our defence held up well - Gareth Richards' experience was a great bonus - and the back row played their tightest and best game to date, Phil Snare on the charge was a fearsome sight to behold.

"The foundations were laid up front and Shaun Lancett was in tremendous form, aided by the rest of the tight five. We now need to keep the momentum and climb to safety."

Tomorrow (Saturday), Malvern are away to Camp Hill in the North Midlands Cup.
