RANGERS entertained Riverway in the West Midlands division one on Saturday, a side who inflicted a 3-0 defeat on them back on October 25.

MALVERN RANGERS 0, RIVERWAY 4

Riverway showed six changes from the starting line-up on that evening and on Saturday, once they scored the second goal ten minutes into the second-half, looked a very accomplished side and ran out comfortable winners.

Keeper Ross Sanders made a vital block save after just two minutes but eight minutes-later Riverway took the lead when a left sided cross into the six-yard box was headed home unchallenged by Steve King.

Rangers rarely threatened the visitors' goal during the first-half and were able to defend sufficiently well to prevent Riverway from increasing their advantage.

However within ten minutes of the second-half it was 2-0. Riverway were awarded a free- kick on their left which Rangers failed to clear and when the ball broke loose to Jake Robinson, he scored from close range.

Within the next minute and it was 3-0 when Adam McMahon chipped Ross Sanders from just outside the penalty area.

The scoring was completed in the 32nd minute when Jake Robinson scored his second goal at the near post.

It was very much a case of damage limitation from then as Rangers rarely threatened to reduce the arrears and the visitors looked quite capable of scoring more, although in truth Ross Sanders didn't have to make notable saves, it was just their greater possession play.

Man-of-the-match was Neil Bond.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Rangers, sponsored by the Cross Keys Inn, have a difficult away West Midlands division one fixture against Stafford Town, who beat Rangers 4-2 back on September 3. Kick-off is 1.45pm, players to meet Brooklyn Motors 11.30am, Oak Apple 11.45am.
