CRAIG Chalmers has thrown his hat in the ring for a coaching berth should John Brain or Andy Keast quit Worcester Rug-by Club.

The 34-year-old, contrary to national media reports, has not yet returned to Melrose and is still contracted to Sixways until the end of June.

And rather than wanting to leave Worcester, the former British Lion said he would jump at the chance to continue his coaching at Six-ways. Chalmers was involved coaching at the academy last season and admitted he would love to take that up a level even if Worcester turned semi-professional.

"I'd jump at the chance," said the fly half. "It's something I'd be very interested in because Worcester is a big club with a vast amount of potential.

"Of course everything is hypothetical at present but if there were changes in the coaching set up then I would love to stay at Worcester.

"My family is very settled here and although there's been a lot of information suggesting I've already returned to Scotland it's a little premature.

"It was a bit unfortunate how things came out but the fact remains that I'm still contracted to Worcester until the end of June.

"I've really enjoyed my coaching at the academy this year and the coaching aspect is certainly something I would love to carry on.

"I would like to carry on playing but the fitness aspect has to come into that. I certainly feel I could do a job, however."
