SKIPPER Wayne Hatswell has been slapped on the transfer list and 10 players released in relegated Kidderminster Harriers' summer revolution.

Manager Stuart Watkiss has taken no prisoners ahead of Harriers' Conference return following a miserable campaign, but the club's lack of cash is also playing its part.

Lee Jenkins, Abdou Sall, Blair Sturrock, John McGrath, Tom Bennett, Simon Weaver, Ian Foster, Billy Jones, Gary Birch and Bertrand Cozic are all on their way.

New 12-month deals have been offered to Dean Keates, Mark Rawle and Chris Beardsley, while Watkiss is also keen to keep non-contract signing Adam Chambers.

Watkiss had already axed Jamie Gleeson and Reuben Hazell but intends to move on club captain Hatswell too if he can.

The defender, who still has two years to run on his contract, suffered from a dip in form and is one of Harriers' biggest earners.

With that in mind, it is unlikely the club would demand a transfer fee for the 30-year-old's services.

Watkiss said: "Wayne will be the first to admit he has struggled this season and perhaps it is best he moves on.

"He signed a new deal earlier this season but that was on 'Football League' money and, to be honest, that has played a part in my decision to make him available."

Chambers, 24, released by West Brom, made two appearances for Harriers and could be an option for Watkiss at right-back or in midfield.

But the Harriers boss admitted: "I'd like to keep Adam but I am realistic in that if he gets himself back to where he once was then he will easily find a club at a much higher level.

"However, if nothing materialises then I would be more than happy to offer him something here."

Meanwhile, there are few surprises in the players released although popular club man Foster and Sturrock were joint top scorers with just six goals.

Midfielder Bennett is keen to head back to his native Scotland in a player-coach capacity, while Jenkins, Sall and Foster were signings from the Jan Molby era.

Sturrock, McGrath, Weaver, Jones and Cozic were all brought in by Watkiss in a bid to boost Harriers in their unsuccessful fight against relegation from Coca-Cola League Two.

Watkiss added: "It's been a terrible season and I have to make significant changes to freshen things up.

"However, some of them will be leaving purely for financial reasons. Money will be tight next season and we have to be realistic in terms of what we can offer."

Harriers' player budget seems set to be slashed to as little as £300,000 but the club ownership issue must still be resolved.

Owner Lionel Newton is expected to make his next move on Friday towards handing over control.

A consortium from Farnborough, believed to include their controversial chairman Ron Higgins, and a group involving Colin Youngjohns and Dave Reynolds are in the running.
