STOURPORT manager Roy Rencher believes a shock success over Southern League division one west leaders Clevedon Town on Saturday could act as a springboard in Swifts' survival scrap.

Rencher was encouraged by his side's last gasp 1-0 victory over Cinderford Town last weekend and hopes their rotten luck has finally changed.

And the Walshes Meadow boss insists a surprise home win over the division's pacesetters on Saturday would give Swifts the confidence to claw their way to safety.

"Clevedon are flying at the moment but if we get through this weekend with a point, or even three, we'll get clear of trouble, no doubt about it," said Rencher.

"The confidence would be that high that it would go a long way to seeing us safe.

"We scored a late, late winner the other day, but we were the better side and deserved to win.

"Hopefully that means that our luck has changed because we've weathered the storm with players coming in and out and I'm sure the lads we've got now are committed to stay and play."

Stourport, who are still second-bottom with two clubs facing the drop, will be without defensive linchpin Dan Harvey, who is on Birmingham County FA duty in a national cup quarter final.

Harvey, on loan from Hednesford, has been in commanding form at centre half despite his tender age of 17, but his absence will mean a recall for Neil Mogford who was rested last weekend.

Craig Webb bagged the vital goal in the closing stages of Stourport trip to Cinderford.

Swifts began well and had the pick of the first half chances on a difficult pitch.

Striker Craig Marshall, on loan from Hednesford Town, twice went close to breaking the deadlock only to force two good saves from Steve Bembow in the home goal.

But as the half went on it was the Swifts who came under pressure with their keeper Eric Pudaloff in the thick of things as he pulled off a number of fine stops.

The second period saw chances go begging at both ends before Webb's heroics secured the points. There were just two minutes remaining when the midfielder powered a 25-yard shot into the net, giving keeper Bembow no chance.

Pudaloff's heroics in keeping a clean sheet earned him the man of the match award.

The young keeper was in action for England's Futsal five-a-side team at Bisham Abbey on Tuesday evening and last night.

The first match of a double header against Finland ended in a 7-3 defeat.

Swifts: PUDALOFF 9, Dodds 7, Robinson 6, Jenkins 7, Henley 7, Webb 8, R Burgess 7 (Rencher 89), Findlay 7 (Edwards 75), Ross 6 (A Burgess 20, 7), Marshall 7, Hands 7. Subs (not used): Sherwood, Mogford.

Swifts' 100-club numbers for the last two weeks are 224 and 139.
