WORCESTER Ladies Rugby team are to host a charity Home Nations Ball and in memory of their former coach.

The event is due to take place in the Hallmark Suite at Sixways, Worcester, on Friday, April 21, to raise much-needed cash for the cause, which helps disadvantaged children.

Worcester Ladies chose to organise the event in support of the Wooden Spoon charity following the death of former ladies' coach Mark Edwards, of Worcester.

Mr Edwards joined the club in January, last year, to coach the ladies' team Malvern Angels but collapsed and died of a heart attack in November, while playing in rugby at Droitwich.

The ladies' team is now encouraging as many people as possible to buy tickets for the ball, in memory of Mark and for an evening of try-scoring fun set in the superb surroundings of the home of Worcester Warriors.

The event comprises a three-course meal and a dance accompanied by a live Irish band. Revellers can also try their luck on the fun casino tables. In attendance will be England Ladies' Grand Slam winners Nicky Crawford and Joanne Yapp who have recently returned from a successful Six Nations competition.

Worcester and England player Nicky Crawford added: "It'll be a great night for a good cause.

"At Worcester we all appreciate the work Mark did before he passed away and the Wooden Spoon charity is one we feel will help people enjoy rugby in the way Mark would've wanted them to."

Tickets cost £30 and, for more information, contact Nicki Milne on 07917866874.
