SIR - Peter Luff thinks we need more cheap labour from India to undercut his work-shy constituents while Sharmi Chakrabatti of Liberty is very concerned about the impact on race relations on our authorities getting a grip on illegal immigration.

So let's imagine what the impact of these two social visionaries will be on the lives of our children and grandchildren. My guess is that we shall soon be revisiting Dickens for our social commentary - but instead of flint-hearted factory owners, an oppressing class of Luffs and Chakrabattis will find themselves living very well while our children either work for nothing or make way for more cockle pickers who will.

And who is the author of this new capitalism, which steals money from the British poor and wastes it on wars to promote global capitalism? Step forward the world bankers who pull the strings of our puppet politicians like Blair, Brown and Mandelson - oh and dear little Peter Luff, too.

However, such an influential man should not hide away behind the shop front of our so-called democracy. No, he should come and tell us what the future holds for us as we fight for scraps with the other members of the new global underclass - or is he too ashamed?

I'd like to think that there's someone left who can still feel shame. But evidence suggests that British opinion-formers like Luff and Chakrabatti live in a world filled with self-serving spin and personal ambition where the only 'human rights' they truly recognise are their own right to remain in power.
