REDDITCH welcomed a prestigious visitor from the country of one of its twin towns.

Tanzanian High Commissioner Hassan Kibelloh made his first visit to the town on March 24, meeting Mayor Diane Thomas, as well as council officers and members of other organisations.

Redditch was twinned with the Tanzanian town of Mtwara in 1985.

During his visit, Mr Kibelloh and his wife Amina Kibelloh met representatives from Redditch One World Link (ROWL) - the support organisation for the Mtwara Twinning.

ROWL has organised exchange visits and has supplied aid including an ambulance, fire engine, tools, textbooks and computers.

Mr Kibelloh met with officers from the council's environment and planning directorate to ask advice and information about planning and waste disposal.

He was also the guest of honour at the Mayor's Civic Charity Dinner, held at the Abbey Hotel.

Mayor Diane Thomas said: "My sincere thanks to the Abbey Hotel staff and management for hosting the event.

"The evening was a great success, raising nearly £400 for my charities Redditch Nightstop and Carers' Careline."
