THE programme at Evesham Sailing Club was interrupted last weekend when near gale-force winds proved too strong for even the most experienced sailors.
Competing for the Charity Cup, racing had to be abandoned after a number of incidents and capsizes kept the club patrol boat busy helping sailors and boats out of trouble.
The wind direction and strength of the gusts made sailing on the Avon almost impossible and the race officer made a decision to abandon in the interests of safety.
