A BRIGHT young Redditch apprentice was runner-up at the 2006 Learner First Awards.
Axel Vinnet, 22, who works at the Quality Hotel in Southcrest, was nominated for one of the awards handed out by the Learning and Skills Council National Employer Service.
This reflected Mr Vinnet's commitment to succeeding in his job and apprenticeship. Two years ago he moved from France to the UK on a six-month placement to improve his English.
But in December 2004, he started an apprenticeship in reception skills at the hotel and not only did he achieve his language goals but a recognised qualification to boot.
The awards ceremony was held at Birmingham Botanical Gardens and hosted by Suzi Perry, presenter of Five's The Gadget Show.
