JUDITH Hall and Deian Rowlands' harps delighted an enthusiastic audience on a bitterly cold evening at the society's March concert.
Deian proved to be a superb replacement for the advertised harpist Hugh Webb, who was unable to appear due to a combination of unforeseen circumstances.
The programme opened with music by French composers Ibert and Faure, following which was a wonderful performance of Bach's Flute Sonata in E Minor. The first half concluded with William Alwyn's Naiades.
After the interval came two of Elgar's best known works, the Chansons de Nuit and de Matin. Deian then played an intriguing piece by little-known composer Bernard d'Andnes which demonstrated different aspects of the harp.
In a change to the programme, Judith played one of the most popular works for solo flute, Debussy's Syrinx after which came an arrangement of the slow movement from Mozart's Flute and Harp Concerto.
The concert ended with two pieces by Astor Piazzolla which resulted in prolonged and enthusiastic applause.
