AN amateur and professional from a local golf club are gearing up for the first round of the Lombard Trophy in May.

Amateur Ted Ferris and professional Mark Toombs, who both play at Lickey's Rose Hill Golf Club, will be competing in the regional round of the tournament at Little Aston Golf Club on May 22.

The pair tee up in the regional final with a luxury five-day trip to Portugal up for grabs, if they can fend off stiff competition in the better-ball medal play format.

Ferris earned the chance to partner Toombs by winning Rose Hill's qualifying competition on, Saturday, March 18 with a net score of 65.

Now in its 12th year Lombard Trophy attracts more than 100,000 golfers from Great Britain and Ireland.
