INCONSISTENT European Tour stalwart John Bickerton finished the Algarve Open in Portugal in 60th place on Sunday.

The Droitwich professional suffered a stop-start campaign at the Le Meriden Penina resort.

Bickerton had made a strong start to the tournament but finished on a level-par score of 288 after four rounds.

A round of 70 left Bickerton two-under-par at the end of the first round.

However, he struggled to reproduce his excellent start and recorded a one-over-par score of 73 to dent his progress.

Bickerton rallied in the third round when a score of 71 restored his two-under-par score.

However, he was unable to maintain the momentum on the final day, where a score of 74 left him on level-par for the tournament in Portugal.

Bickerton's fellow Englishman Paul Broadhurst won the Algarve Open for the second year in a row when he edged compatriot Anthony Wall with a score of under-17 271.

Bickerton, who remains fifth in the European Tour's order of merit, has a two week break as he is not competing in the US Masters this week or in the China Open the following week.
