A BRAVE Studley mum with terminal cancer is hoping to help fellow sufferers by leading a charity walk at the weekend.

Doreen Raybould, who has been given less than six months to live, is determined to take part in the 5k walk at Droitwich's Hanbury Hall on Sunday to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

And the 58-year-old Allendale Court resident is urging other people to join in the event, which will hopefully raise £15,000.

She said: "I just wanted to do something which would help other people in the future. I might not be able to walk all the way round but I'm determined to do what I can.

"I would encourage anyone who can spare the time to join in - although it won't help me I would like to think other people will benefit after I'm gone."

The mum-of-three and grandmother of five will join twin daughters Lisa Fenner and Jane Kenning, 35, from Alcester, and best friend Gwen Lloyd on the walk.

Her son Matthew is also flying over from California to join in with grandson Dylan, four.

Born and bred in Bromsgrove, Mrs Raybould moved to Studley four years ago and was diagnosed with lung cancer in October last year after being admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke.

After surgery, doctors discovered the cancer had spread from her lungs and in January scans showed she had another two brain tumours.

Her daughter Lisa said they all felt helpless but taking part in the walk had given them something positive to focus on.

"Mum having cancer has made us realise just how important research is and we'd appeal to anyone who can to join in to help raise as much money as possible," she added.

To take part, turn up on the day or call 0121 359 5676 for a sponsorship form.

Registration is £6 for adults and £3 for children. The route is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs but dogs are allowed.
