CONGRATULATIONS to David Rogers on having his much-needed operation performed in India (Advertiser, March 29).

He was fortunate to have the money and to be able to spend time away from his son.

No doubt the state helped with the latter's constant care, which is as it should be.

If Mr Rogers manages to get to the sub-continent again, perhaps he might investigate medical care in the Indian provinces and report back to us.

Who knows, he might appreciate the British welfare state a little more and perhaps temper his criticism of the National Health Service.
