TROY Wood and Lewis Skyers can be pleased with their performances for Worcester City against Alfreton Town.

Both are young players learning the game and Saturday was a good test for them. They came through fine, although the result should have been a lot better.

Lewis was great deputising for Danny McDonnell in goal. He did everything that was asked of him. He kicked well, his decision-making and positioning were good and he came confidently for crosses.

He did not have a save to make in the whole game except, obviously, for the two goals. He had little else to do because Alfreton created nothing.

It's frustrating that we had to fight back in the game to save a point. It was the same old story -- they had two shots on our goal in 90 minutes and scored both.

We are dominating games, bossing the possession, getting balls into the box and working the goalkeeper, yet we are still hanging on to get a point or even losing games.

Our failing at the moment is that, although we are playing well, we are dropping points here and there.

I thought we played OK on Saturday. Our passing in the first-half was really good, but we lost our quality in the second-half.

Alfreton defended well against the ball into the penalty box and we did not have enough men on the end of things. We passed it around a lot, which is quite brave on our pitch, but it did not happen for us.

It was poor play and bad defending on our part for their second goal. We can only look at ourselves -- it's as simple as that. The majority of goals in recent weeks have been our own undoing.

Alfreton's penalty was controversial and the referee had no option when Adam Burley caught the ball.

Everybody saw the incident and can interpret it differently. But it was a totally innocent thing that Adam had done for the protection of one of Alfreton's players.

The lad took a whack and went down -- it looked like he may have been knocked out. One of their players said 'Catch it'. There was genuine concern for the player down.

It was down to the opposition to see what they wanted to do with the penalty. I'd have told our penalty-taker to roll it back to the goalkeeper, at least I hope I would have said that.

It was nice for Troy to get off the mark. He was Johnny-on-the-spot for his goal. He's been out for a while and it's taken him a few games to get sharp.

Any goal for me at this stage of my career is a bonus, so it was nice to contribute late on.

A group of Carlisle United fans came and supported me at the game, so they must have been the lucky charm -- I scored quite a few at Carlisle.

Coming down for Sunday's LDV Vans Trophy final, they decided to watch Worcester beforehand and see how I'm getting on.

It feels good when supporters at former clubs remember you in a nice way, recalling all that I gave for the club.

I was planning to do live radio commentary at the Trophy final, but that fell through at the last minute.

I watched it on television and it was a blow that Carlisle lost.
