NEAR perfect conditions promised a good morning's rugby when Bredon's Under-14s faced opposition from Stow-on-the-Wold.

The visitors drew first blood to take an early five-point lead but Bredon then got into their stride and defended and att-acked with gusto.

Both sides had further cha-nces but sustained Bredon pressure culminated in a try for scrum-half Ali Phillips following a five-metre scrum.

Tom Kelly added a further two points with a well-taken conversion to give the Buzzards a 7-5 lead at half-time.

The second half was a scrappy affair at times, but the Buzzards produced some phases of creative play and scored through tighthead prop Dodge Antonelli.

Stow, though, never gave up and rattled the home side with another try.

Bredon were then forced to defend during a sustained Stow attack and they stuck to their task diligently and, despite having several penalties awarded against them within sight of their try line, they prevented a further score to complete a deserved 12-10 success.

The Under-13s travelled to Hereford having won the home encounter earlier in the season.

A tougher test was anticipated and the Bredon boys took some time to wake up and Hereford ran in three tries for a 21-0 interval advantage.

An early try from prop Mike Price gave Bredon a second half boost but another fine move by Hereford's backs resulted in another try.

The Buzzards showed great character and kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a try for Ross Attwood converted by Scott Bunch.

Hereford were always dangerous on the break but some excellent defence and tackling from winger Ali Horne prevented a further score and the home side had to settle for a 28-12 margin of victory.
