Kings Norton 25, Bredon Star 22

Kings Norton held on against a determined Bredon side to secure an excellent victory and move into the semi-finals where they will face Old Griffinians.

And it was the third time Kings shave beaten their rivals who always play fast open rugby.

The game opened with Bredon on the attack and Kings needed some desperate defending to keep them at bay.

But the visitors did score on three minutes only for Kings to reply five minutes with a super scrum half try when Owen Bryan-Williams darted through to touchdown following a long upfield clearance by fly-half Ken Whitehouse who then coolly slotted the conversion.

Despite determined defence by Kings the Bredon attack continued to look the most likely to score and they regained the lead on 16 minutes following some strong upfield attacking play.

The Hopwood side began to slip into gear and four minutes later prop Richard Revell finished off a great forward drive to put his side back into a slender 12-10 lead.

Bredon had a third try disallowed and this allowed Kings to extend their six minutes before the break when South African Jan Van Der Walt broke out from a loose maul to feed number 8 Mark Waudby.

But the final points of the half came from Bredon who closed the gap to 17-15 with another forwards' try.

Norton's plight was not helped when De Walt was sin binned but the home side's determined defence held strong despite some probing kicks.

Mark Martin scored for Kings only for the visitors to level the scores.

The action reached a climax when fly-half Whitehouse coolly won the tie for the Hopwood club with an excellent penalty kick into the wind.
