Fellow players from the last four decades paid tribute to stalwart prop Trevor Lacy, who was in the thick of first team action for over 500 consecutive appearances.

President Phil Amphlett said: "Trevor is a big part of the club. His entire life's being connected to it and he shares a close bond."

Mr Lacy caught the rugby bug as a schoolboy when he was persuaded to take up the sport by player Alan Farmer. He then became a fearsome and reliable player for the first team.

Mr Lacy, who worked as a builder, finally hung up his boots in the late 1980s.

He said: "I've never retired because I loved playing so much. I worked very hard in the week and playing rugby was the perfect place to relax on a Saturday."

He and wife Brenda are moving from their home to Colwyn Bay because of Mr Lacy's inoperable heart condition.

Mr Lacy said: "I'll still be coming back to the club as often as possible, it's in my blood. I saw people I haven't seen for years and it's amazing how many friends you can make over time."
