TENNIS: BIDFORD and Alcester made good starts to the new season with some fine tennis to top their leagues in the Prudden Road Surfacing Junior Summer Tennis Cup
The competition is open to players aged 12 and under with teams making up four pools. Each team hosts a round of matches each month through to June. The finals night will be held in June at Bidford Tennis Club with a place at stake in the regional final in Stratford later in the year.
In Pool A, Bidford brothers George and Harry Naylor took command, opening with a tight 7-6 victory over Stratford B pair William Highfield and Oscar Lawrence. Bidford then went on to defeat Stratford A 6-2, followed by Snitterfield 6-1.
Pool B saw Henley's Andy Cooper and Farrell Streacy dominant, defeating first Claverdon 6-2, followed by Tanworth-in-Arden 6-2, and lastly Studley 6-0.
The Studley pair of Jack Allum and Sam Hillpert-Smith made up for that defeat by in turn beating Claverdon 6-1 and Tanworth 6-1.
Alcester proved the top team in Pool D with twins Michael and Arthur Bennett defeating all-comers, beginning with Pershore 6-2, then Inkberrow B 6-0, followed by Inkberrow A 6-1.
There was a shock in the final game of the day, Inkberrow B's Andrew Price and Billy Coughlin beating A side team-mates Nathan Comber and William Hill 6-3.
