Worcester City Res 5,

Evesham Utd Ladies 3

SUNDAY'S League Cup semi-final was switched to St George's Lane where United succumbed to their second successive cup defeat.

The visitors fell behind from an eighth minute corner when the ball struck the unfortunate Amy Summers and bounced into the net.

Although Worcester had the advantage of the wind further chances came to nothing. However, two goals around the half-hour mark undid all the previous good work and left United with an almost impossible task.

They briefly gave themselves hope after 34 minutes when Sam Perry and Kayleigh Hateley combined superbly to set up Becky Handy to crack home a fine shot from 15 yards.

City, though, regained their three-goal lead five minutes before half-time.

Three minutes later, Sarah Richard-son's mistimed tackle resulted in a penalty kick and Evesham were 5-1 adrift.

Their hopes were raised after 47 minutes when the referee awarded a penalty but Charlene McLoughlin's spot-kick flew over the crossbar. However, the referee had noticed the goalkeeper moving off her line and ordered the kick to be retaken only for McLoughlin's kick to again clear the bar.

Perry missed a good chance as Eve-sham pressed forward, while Hateley's corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble that again ended without reward.

The home side weren't so lucky in the 62nd minute when another Hateley corner bounced around in the area before Tustin stooped to head home.

United netted a consolation goal in injury-time when Hateley, picking the ball up in her own half, looked up to see Summers in space and her glorious through ball set Summers free to fire home.

United will finish the season with three league gagainst Hinton at Common Road (2pm).
