CHAIRMAN Tom Herbert has backed his Bromsgrove Rovers team to add some much-needed magic to the season by winning the Errea Southern League Cup.

After a season that has not lived up to fans' expectations in the Southern League Division One West Rovers' brilliant run to the final against Hitchin Town has ignited supporters' imagination.

Rovers go to Hitchin on Tuesday, April 11, and then entertain the Hertfordshire side at the Victoria Ground two weeks later.

The chairman believes that a strong home support could help Rovers end a disappointing season with the club's first silverware for ten years.

He said: "If we get a good home crowd that will be crucial.

"If the fans can get behind the team at home then it will make a big difference."

Rovers have defied all expectations by knocking out a string of Premier Division teams out of the competition.

Rovers have deserved to make it this far. They started the competition by winning derby matches against Stourport Swifts and Solihull Borough.

A 5-0 win over Evesham United in round three had fans in raptures but even better was to come.

Victories over high-flying King's Lynn, Banbury United and Premier Division title chasers Chippenham confirmed Rovers' giant killing reputation.

Herbert said: "The players have done fantastic. Every round has got tougher and tougher and the players have been magnificent.

" I think we've got a good chance because of all the excellent teams we've knocked out."

Now all that stands between Rovers and the club's first piece of silverware since the Bob Lord Trophy in the 1995/96 season is mid-table Premier Division side Hitchin Town.
