I WROTE and criticised the new junction from Areley Common to the Dunley Road, and I have not changed my view that it was sketched on a fag packet just before closing time.

But, we have it and I cannot see them spending another £187,000 to undo the mess.

If we are going to campaign about roads, I suggest that the "second Stourport bridge" scheme (clearly too indigestible as one project) be split into four tranches and phased over a 12-year period.

Phase one could take the B4193 across to the Worcester Road (behind the Old Rose and Crown, opposite Discovery Road).

Phase two could take Discovery Road across the water meadows to the riverside, with a spur to the new development on the Bond Worth site.

Phase three would be from the opposite bank to the Dunley Road, servicing the swimming baths, caravan parks, rugby, cricket and soccer clubs, linking with the back road to Bewdley via a traffic island.

The first three phases would all have "stand alone" merits and, of course, the final phase would be the bridge, the design of which should be given to a team of baboons who could probably do a better job than those who designed Kidderminster's Sainsbury's junction and the Dunley Road junction.
