CYCLING: Wyre Forest cycle racing club's Paul Carson finished a superb ninth overall in the Welsh CA 25 mile hilly time trial at Crickhowell.
The race kicked off the eight-round Magic Dragon series with round one attracting a field of 80 riders. It took place over an arduous undulating circuit, including a four-mile climb to Tretower at half distance.
Carson was still recovering from a heavy cold but battled on to cross the line in one hour eight minutes and 46 seconds behind overall winner Gavin Pardoe of Artic Shorter Rochford RT in 1-00-32.
