CREATIVE hairdressers from a Bewdley salon have shown they are a cut above the rest after reaching the finals of a national competition.

A team from Abacus Hair Studio in High Street won the regional finals of the L'Oreal Colour Trophy, which were held at The National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on Wednesday, last week after battling it out with 24 other salons.

This year, the theme of the competition is "Hair Inspired by Fashion" and finalists have to show an original approach to the trends of autumn/winter 2006.

The team, made up of stylist and colour technicians, Kimberley Edwards and Zoe Tilley and make-up artist, stylist and studio manager, Allison Ford, have 30 minutes to capture their look with model Kate Hopkins.

They will now have to recreate their look when they compete in the grand final at London's Old Billingsgate Market on Monday, May 8.

Ms Ford said: "It is a fantastic achievement and we are really chuffed. We are all really looking forward to going down to London. It is going to be a big night."
