HIGHWAYS engineers have been criticised for failing to repair a damaged sign which looks "like a banana".
The Bewdley nameplate went missing from the top of Blackstone Bank, on the Stourport Road, in November.
The sign - one of two remaining traditional-style plates - later turned up damaged further down the road and was returned to its original position by Worcestershire Highways Partnership in March.
But Councillor Paul Gittins said at a town council meeting: "It looks like a banana. It looks a mess and it is not suitable for this town."
Andy Broome, of the Highways Partnership, said: "It is slightly damaged but it doesn't warrant spending more money on replacing it. It still serves its purpose - it's legible."
