VOLUNTEERS at Kidderminster Victoria Cricket Club will swap their bats for brushes when they take part in a scheme to spruce up their Chester Road ground.

KVCC hope to make the venue more attractive for the increased crowds they are expecting following their return to the top flight of Birmingham League cricket.

The spruce-up will take place on Saturday and Sunday and is part of the ECB project Cricketforce, which aims to get communities to take pride in their local cricket clubs.

The out-dated pavilion will be modernised with new timber and a fresh lick of paint, while the general perimeters of the ground will be enhanced with shrubs.

Dave Clamp, honorary secretary of Chester Road Sports and Social Club, said: "This year we are hoping that even more volunteers will come forward."
