FIVE local actresses are set to follow in the footsteps of Sharon Osbourne, Jerry Hall and Glenn Close as they give a charity performance of the Vagina Monologues.

Frank and explicit, the show has proven one of the biggest theatrical hits of recent years for its celebration of womanhood and women's sexuality.

And a Pershore drama group is set to perform its version of the hit while raising cash for Droitwich Women's Refuge at the same time.

The Red Light Theatre Company took on the challenge to back V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls.

And the group chose the charity to benefit from the performance, which also promises to be a great night out - for both women and men.

Kim Davies and Louise Sutherland produced the show and said their cast of two mothers, a mother-to-be and two local students meant the actresses could choose pieces that cover a range of ages and experiences.

Kim, from Pershore, said: "All of them bring an incredible warmth and vitality to these amazing testimonies. These speeches make you laugh, make you cry and make you angry.

"We are fairly confident that Evesham will not have seen - or heard - anything like this before.

"The rehearsals have been incredible fun and although its taken a while for us to get to grips with the content, we are confident that everyone who comes along to see it will leave feeling very empowered."

Louise added: "We've already had a lot of support already because the evening is for charity."
