WEST Malvern entertained Bromsgrove Corinthians on Saturday in the Worcester League division one on a pitch that was barely playable due to torrential rain.

WEST MALVERN 2, BROMSGROVE CORINTHIANS 2

West Malvern knew that they were in for a hard struggle, having lost two weeks ago, but they got off to a flying start when after three minutes, a corner from Paul Sirrett was palmed into the net by the Corinthians goalkeeper.

Dougie Hawes worked hard up front and West Malvern created chances but did not make the most of them. After 20 minutes they lost David Knapper with an injury and introduced James Appleby.

Corinthians equalised in the 43rd minute from a goal-mouth scramble.

In the second-half, West Malvern continued to push forward in an attempt to get in front. Dougie Hawes went close on two occasions, once chipping the keeper from 20 yards only to see his shot roll wide. On 70 minutes, West Malvern were back in front. Good build-up resulted in Dougie Hawes' shot being parried and James Appleby drove the ball home.

West Malvern's joy was short-lived, within three minutes Bromsgrove had equalised again.

Although West Malvern continued to push forward looking for goals, they did not enjoy the best of luck and in the end the game finished up all square. Overall, a much improved performance from two weeks ago when they lost at Bromsgrove.

Tomorrow (Saturday), West Malvern, sponsored by the Cross Keys and Amey, travel to second-in-the-table VBL Sports. Players meet 1.30pm Bakery car park.
