RANGERS had nine players unavailable on Saturday, which meant that they travelled to third-placed Bilston Town with just 11.

BILSTON TOWN 5, MALVERN RANGERS 1

This meant first starts of the season for manager Roger Kitchener, Simon Burge and Andy Hurrell.

It was also a first in that an all- female trio of officials were in charge.

After 12 minutes, following a free-kick by Roger Kitchener, the ball broke loose to Ian Lucas, who struck the crossbar.

Two minutes later and it was 1-0 to Bilston. A long through-ball saw Darryl Smith beyond the Rangers defence to score into the corner.

On 22 minutes, it was 2-0 when Darryl Smith passed to Mark Swann to score from close range.

Just when it looked like Rangers would have something to fight for with the wind in their favour in the second-half, they conceded a third goal with the last kick of the half. Mark Swann gained possession down the left and his cross to the far post was met by Darryl Smith to head home.

Rangers came out in a determined mood for the second-half and Andy Fletcher headed wide from a Roger Kitchener free-kick.

Shortly after they had strong appeals for a penalty turned down for a foul on Dave Perera, the resultant free-kick being awarded outside the area.

After 18 minutes, Rob Cullen's corner was tipped over by David Chapman before one minute later their efforts were rewarded. They were awarded a penalty for handball and Danny White scored into the corner.

Five minutes later, Darryl Smith got behind the Rangers defence to complete his hat-trick and with ten minutes left, Mark Swann completed the home side's nap hand.

Bilston's choice for man-of-the-match was Rob Cullen.
