PEOPLE in Worcestershire are being urged to switch off their TVs for a week and go and explore the country instead.

It's part of a an international scheme running from Friday, April 21, to Monday, May 1, for people to take advantage of the longer daylight hours to spend more time with family and friends in the great outdoors, whether it's going for a walk or having a picnic.

Worcestershire County Council's Countryside Service said there were more than 20 country parks, nature reserves, picnic places and riverside parks which meant there are places all around the county for people of all ages, abilities and interests to enjoy.

Dan Barnett, senior countryside sites officer, said: "This is a great time of year to get out for some fresh air and shake off those winter blues. So turn off your TV set and do something less boring instead."

"A number of the sites are low key and simply provide access to the countryside, while others, like Worcester Woods and Waseley Hills Country Parks, have a range of facilities that include waymarked trails, cafs, play areas and toilets."

Information on places to visit and events in the county can be found in the Enjoy Worcestershire's Parks And Countryside magazine, available from libraries, tourist information centres or by calling 01562 710025.
