CHANGES to the senior management structure at Malvern Hills District Council will not be made at taxpayers' expense, according to its chief executive.
Chris Bocock's comments came after the council announced it was reducing the roles of chief executive, assistant chief executive, three strategic directors and nine heads of service to a chief executive and six heads of service by March 2009.
Mr Bocock said the public would not be forced to meet the cost of early retirement, as it was hoped those involved would retire or move to other jobs.
"We'd be looking to achieve the changes at an absolute minimum cost to the council," he said. "This is about releasing money to invest in council services."
The council voted for the changes in principle at a meeting on Monday. The cost is not yet known.
"Hopefully, if residents have issues with the plan they will come to us rather than rely on speculation on the letters' page of the Malvern Gazette," said Mr Bocock.
