FRESH from a full week at the Saundersfoot Coppet Regatta, members of Arden Sailing Club gathered for more competitive racing on Sunday.
The second race in the Ladies' Series was contested in a rather fickle south westerly breeze and, after a busy start, Val Jolly (Topper) stole away into first place and held this throughout.
After some changes, the Picos of Jane Smee and Caroline Stephen finished second and third respectively.
The same light winds prevailed for the third race in the Pursuit Series and Dave Yule (Heron) led the field for the first half of the race before being caught by faster boats.
Andrew Potts (Solo) took over the lead and maintained it agai-nst all except Niall Campbell and Jane Smee (Enterprise), with Keith Stevens (Comet) in third place.
There then followed a dramatic change in the weather, with cloud and rain and a brisk wind replacing the calm sunshine.
Eight boats tussled for clear air and water at the line for Strens-ham Race three and eventually the Enterprise of Campbell and Smee pulled clear and to finish in sufficient time to leave Potts in second on handicap.
Stuart and Caroline Stephen (Enterprise) were third, followed by Yule's Heron.
There's a taster day at the Defford club on Sunday so, if you would like to try sailing for yourself, then come along. Ring Ray on 01386 554109 or Helen on 01905 23298 for details.
