SIX weeks after the body of a newborn baby girl was found by the riverbank near Great Alne, the case is to appear on BBC's Crimewatch tonight.

Detectives will travel to London to take part in the programme, which will include film footage of the scene and an appeal by DCI Adrian Pearson.

The appeal will focus on items of bloodstained clothing which were found in a plastic Mothercare carrier bag with the baby's body.

They include a pair of navy blue pyjama bottoms with teddy bear motifs, which were produced by BHS as part of its Christmas range in 2002, and a pair of Debenhams knickers, which were black with a burgundy coloured leaf pattern.

Officers hope the clothing will help to identify the baby's mother and want anyone who recognises them to come forward.

The body was found by a family out walking near Wood Lane at about 8pm on Thursday, May 11. She was named Lilly by detectives as she was found near the water.

The baby had injuries including a fractured skull and collarbone. and her death is being treated as an unlawful killing.

Appeals for Lilly's mother to come forward failed to produce any leads although the Operation Windsor incident room has received a number calls from members eager to help. Crimewatch will be shown at 9pm on BBC1.

Anyone with information which could help the investigation is asked to call the Operation Windsor incident room on 01789 444693 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
