BROMSGROVE Swimming Club finished fifth in the final round of the Nuneaton and District League.

The team, which was vying for a third consecutive season in Division One, strengthened their chances of avoiding relegation.

With a team that was missing several members in the boys' nine-year-old section because illness, Bromsgrove's remaining swimmers had to raise their game in order to match some strong teams.

Sarah Farmiloe came second in the under-10 50 metres freestyle, while Alex Aston finished second in the under-9s 25m breaststroke race.

Bromsgrove's swimmers were finishing in lower places but Dan Scarr showed his class by finishing second in the under-12s breaststroke.

Will Newton was one of the night's biggest success stories for Bromsgrove - winning the under-12s freestyle.

Thomas McCallum was unlucky not to win both the freestyle and butterfly races and had to settle for second places in both events.

The under-12s girls' relay freestyle team of Alice Alton, Aimee Fisher, Emily Healey and Sophie Randall were victorious. The quartet also came second in the medley relay.
