REDDITCH pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the weekend with their defeat of Division Three promotion hopefuls Berkswell.

And captain Nev Mason is now hoping his Bromsgrove Road side can climb the table and ease any relegation worries.

After winning the toss Redditch elected to bat and opener Danny Protherough showed some excellent form with a fine knock of 77.

He was given good support by Evan McCarthy (33) and Adam Gailey (55) as Redditch scored 231-9 from their 55 overs.

In reply, Russell Southwick took two early wickets before skipper Mason (4-80) chipped in to remove opener Ashlaq for 106. Southwick returned to close the innings down and finished with an excellent 4-32 as the visitors fell l17 runs short.

"We had a chat last week about belief and this week we believed in ourselves," Mason said.

"The result leaves us 24 points behind Berkswell in third but it is more important for us to stay in this division.

"We are still building as a club and know it is going to be tough especially with four teams being relegated."

Steve Haines should be back in contention for Saturday's match with Worcester.

He has been sidelined with a back injury but made his return for the seconds at the weekend, helping them to a winning draw at Himley.

In the Worcestershire Sunday League, an unbeaten 150 from Jack Williams helped Redditch to a 73-run victory at Pershore.

Studley suffered a 57-run defeat in their Division Two match at Dorridge.

Ashley Newdick (4-48) and Mark Lewis (3-76) were the only bowlers to find success with the ball as the home side soared to 308-9.

And the Kiwi all-rounder then led the way with the bat, hitting 89 as the Washford Fields side set off in search of their target.

Brandon Miller hit a useful 42 but the visitors fell short and were all out for 251.
