A centre, dedicated to working with young homeless people in the town, is appealing for more volunteers to come forward to continue its success.

The Bromsgrove Youth Homelessness Forum is a local registered charity offering information, support and advice to young people who are at risk of becoming homeless.

It has a drop-in day centre, The Basement, within the Baptist Church in New Road. There young people can have a chat with a youth worker and get support to enable them to resolve their problems.

Spokesman Elaine Mortimore said: "The drop-in centre at The Basement is proving a great success. It has received a phenomenal number of visits from young people seeking advice and support and it continues to go from strength to strength.

"As a result we are recruiting more volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and gain valuable new experience and skills. Volunteers will receive basic training that will enhance their existing abilities.

"We are looking for people from a diverse range of backgrounds with a positive attitude and a few hours to spare each week. Even if you could only help out now and then, it is very likely you could become a sessional volunteer," she said.

"As part of our recruitment process, we are obliged by law to apply for a criminal records check at the CRB, but if you have any queries about this, don't hesitate to ask."

Anyone interested can call in at a coffee morning which is being held today (Wednesday) from 10am until noon.

There they can meet the staff, ask questions and find out more about volunteering opportunities.
