A NEW Bromsgrove town centre pub, named by six Advertiser/Messenger readers, is due to open its doors next Wednesday .

The Barracuda Group is opening The Rousler, at 11-13 High Street, in the former Halfords store and the adjacent vacant shop.

Our readers were given the chance to come up with a suitable name for the venue. Dozens of readers took part, but six entries to the contest came up with the Rousler, which was declared the winner.

To rousle is an old Worcestershire word meaning "to wake up" and the Rousler is also the name given to the Bromsgrove devil, a terracotta figure that is very well known locally.

The winners scoop a VIP champagne meal and get to see their idea up in lights at the pub.

The Rousler will operate as a Smith and Jones branded pub that represents a £750,000 investment and will bring around 25 full and part-time jobs to the Bromsgrove area.

Barracuda's area manager, David Campbell, said: "The team are all in place and are undergoing a training programme ready for the opening night. As a Smith and Jones pub we operate to high standards and focus on giving our customers excellent service - I am confident that the Rousler will bring a welcome new offer to Bromsgrove."

Interior features will include slate, wood block and carpet flooring, leather upholstery and booth seating, with reclaimed and salvaged fittings and architectural heritage colours.

On opening night the doors will open to VIP customers from 5pm and to the public from 7pm.
