CHIEFS at Bromsgrove's Artrix centre hope a packed cinema programme can be the perfect distraction from World Cup fever this summer.

The arts centre, on School Drive, has a glittering collection of the year's best movies on show through the summer.

British classic Brief Encounter is screened on June 22 and 23, before acclaimed documentary Glastonbury shows an alternate lifestyle on June 27.

Tom Hanks' blockbuster The Da Vinci Code and children's films Ice Age: The Meltdown and The Wild will also be screened.

Marketing manager, Bev Southall said: "There is life outside of the World Cup, so anybody who isn't interested in the beautful game should look no further than the Artrix.

"We've gots lots going on throughout the summer and have a load of great films in our cinema that are more entertaining than Brazil's national team.

"We're not anti-football though, we're all keeping our fingers crossed that England go all the way in the World Cup. But a good film is also a welcome break if the tension caused by the football is too much."
