THE president, Maureen Timmins, presided over the meeting. After welcoming all members, Maureen reminded them of the school fair which will be held this Saturday at which we would be holding a cake stall.

Cakes and biscuits can be taken to the stall from 12.30pm, or delivered at either Maureen's or Dorothy's house during the morning. On June 13, the committee joined in a trial walk through Lickey Woods in preparation for the August walk and meal. Maureen hopes that all members will join this walk, followed by a meal at the Oak Tree, on August 17. As the link delegate to the AGM in Cardiff, Dorothy presented her report to members. Following the secretary's and treasurer's reports, Maureen welcomed the speaker for the evening. Julie Udall, of Hereford and Worcester Fire Service, spoke about fire safety. Julie talked mainly of the hazards in the home, especially in the kitchen, giving examples of the ease in which fires can be started. For example chip pans left unattended. She also stressed the careless over use of electrical gadgets. She spoke of specific tragedies caused by thoughtless acts such as leaving cigarettes alight in bedrooms. Julie stressed the importance of having smoke alarms, which work, in all rooms. After a lively question and answer session, Norma thanked Julie for her excellent talk.
