I AM writing to encourage your readers to put their spare time to good use by volunteering at their local British Heart Foundation (BHF) Shop in Worcestershire.

Volunteers are absolutely essential to the success of the BHF and play a vital role in raising funds for the charity to help fight heart disease - the UK's single biggest killer.

Most people know someone affected by heart disease and by joining the team of BHF Shop volunteers they can really help make a difference. Without local volunteers BHF Shops would not be able to raise the staggering £9 million that they do every year.

Volunteering at your local BHF Shop is not only a fun way to get involved with the Charity's cause but is also a great way to make new friends, as there is a real team atmosphere. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and with no age restrictions - enthusiasm and a desire to help are all that is required.

I urge your readers to pop along to their local BHF Shop to ask about volunteering opportunities. Readers can find their local BHF Shop by visiting bhf.org.uk/shops or calling 0870 120 4141.

Ken Blair

Chief executive - BHF Shops

I WOULD like to say a big thank you to family friends and neighbours who supported me on June 4 when I did the Worcester charity bike ride for the Heart Foundation and raised £150.

The generosity of people never ceases to amaze me especially pensioners who gave so willingly, thank you.
