A YOUNG Kidderminster performer who is making waves in the dancing world has scooped a top prize in a national contest.

Six-year-old Rosie Egan now has more than 60 trophies in her collection after beating off the competition to finish first at the Stafford Championships in the under-eights category.

The Offmore Primary School pupil competed against 20 other disco dancers at the contest, which was held on Sunday, June 11.

Rosie, whose mother Paula is also a dancer, has been a member of Bromsgrove School of Dance for two years.

Mrs Egan said: " I used to run a dance school in Kidderminster and she always came with me when I was teaching. I think she is following in my footsteps."

Rosie, who has been dancing since she was three, has been competing at shows for two years and has travelled across the country.

As well as disco, Rosie also likes street dancing and competes in contests as part of a duo and a trio.

The young performer trains twice a week in Bromsgrove and has private lessons and extra dance sessions to prepare her for each show.

Mrs Egan said: "She absolutely loves it. She enjoys wearing the make-up and the costumes. She was absolutely thrilled to win. Her classmates and teachers are really proud of her."

She added that Rosie's three-year-old sister, Maisy, also looks set to follow her lead as she has began dancing around the house.

Rosie's next competition will be the North of England Championships on Saturday, July 1, which will take place in Filey in Yorkshire.
