AS the grandparents of the young soldier mentioned in the story "Duty Calls for John," we are absolutely outraged at the letter from John Lester (Shuttle Times & News, June 15).
We are also anti-war - and we have more reason than most to be against this war - but to use a story about a young soldier's life to get across a political point is unforgivable.
John's "duty," in fact, is to obey orders.
How dare this man use our grandson's name for a political purpose from the comfort of his Primrose Way home while these boys/girls are sweltering in the heat of the desert.
This story was about a young soldier's struggle to join the army after everything he's been through. It was not about war.
I am sure the majority of the people of this area will be 100 per cent behind these men/women.
As a matter of interest, we did not notice a letter to the Shuttle/Times & News from Mr Lester about the death of five service personnel shot down in a helicopter and witnessed by our grandson.
