Tenbury 253-4 Martley 254-5

AFTER setting home team Martley a big target to win the local derby Division Three fixture in the Crusader Worcestershire League, sloppy fielding and bowling allowed the visitors to get home by five wickets with over an over to spare.

Steve Giles (62, 10x4's) featured in good partnerships for the first two wickets when Tenbury batted first, sharing 55 with Bob Felce (23) and a further 89 with Robin Downward (65, 10x4's and a six).

Tom Rawlings hit a quickfire 42 no and Andy Adams (24 no), the pair hammering 53 off the final five overs, to finish on 253-4.

When Martley replied Andy Adams took a wicket with his third ball and looked unplayable early on. He took another wicket and with skipper Jay Da Costa catching dangerman Jim Bashford off Derek James the visitors appeared to be in the driving seat.

This was confirmed when Mo Munir took a stunning catch to leave Martley struggling at 56-4. Then the wheels came off, allowing P Bibby to score his second ton in two weeks and along with T Dobinson (51) see the home side through to a five wicket win.

l The second team fixture at Penlu ended in a winning draw to Tenbury. Tenbury batted first and reached 175-9 in their innings, Martley finished 18 runs short of their target, on 158-8 .

Ian Taylor (27) and Darren Thompson (26) gave Martley a good start after losing an early wicket. After they went only Alan Taylor (51 no) mastered the bowling, his best support coming from Zac Yarrinton.

G McDonald (79 no) batted throughout the visitors innings, but received little support from any of his colleagues. Jim Yeomans and Aaron Morris each took a couple of wickets, but the best figures went to youngster Yarrinton who took 3-28.

This weekend Tenbury face Birlingham with the first team at Penlu.
