THE deadline is looming for the visit to Tenbury by the judges of this year's Heart of England in Bloom competiton and although much has been done there is still much that could be done to tidy up the town.

"It's not just about baskets and tubs, " said Councillor Janice Gluyas, committee chairman of Tenbury in Bloom, "it's about having pride in the town. We've a lot of people beavering away to get ready for the judging. If we want to move from bronze to silver we have to work hard."

One place where points could be lost on the judging route is Kyre Road near the brook close to The Crow public house. There are tubs of flowers in place now and there's been a general clean-up but there remains one "blot on the landscape" - Kyre brook - overgrown with weeds and a dumping ground for rubbish.

" There's a bicycle in there and a beer barrel was dumped recently," said Coun. Gluyas, "We are battling with the Environment Agency to get something done but with no success. We on the committee are all women of a certain age and I'm afraid we just don't have the necessary strength to do this."

A challenge then to the men of Tenbury Wells. Prove yourselves and help clean up your town. Coun Gluyas can be contacted on 01584 781265.
